VENICE, ITALY : PHOTO DIARY

5 September 2017

Venice, Metropolitan City of Venice, Italy
Buongiorno!

Venice has to be one of the most photogenic cities in the world. With narrow canals, colorful buildings and charming locals, it truly is beautiful. Instead of drafting out a guide you have probably seen before I thought I'd share my view through my lens. As they say, a picture tells a thousand words.
On my journey up to Edinburgh, I sifted my way through my travel photos and found these for my first travel diary.

OY! GREEN PEOPLE SKINCARE REVIEW & GIVEAWAY

11 August 2017

So, recently Green People got in touch with me and sent me some products from their new range ‘OY’ (Organic Young). Their new range is tailored to young people, especially teenagers and is packed with over 90% of natural and organic active ingredients to nourish, rebalance and restore optimum skin health for clear skin, naturally. Their main aim is to break the cycle of spots by using natural products, unlike many high-street products which worsen most skin containing chemicals, harsh foaming agents, alcohol which all contribute to problems like acne, blackheads and oily skin. Green People has over 100 multi award winning high-performance skin and hair care formulations, are 100% vegetarian and 100% cruelty-free. Not only do they cater to young people skinthey make products for all ages, from babies to grandparents and everyone in between.

Anyway, today I'll be sharing my thoughts on some of the products they sent me.

Clear Skin Foaming Face Wash 100ml – £12.50
So I started off with the face wash applying it to my face twice a day, once in the shower in the morning and the other in the evening for my night time routine. I only applied one pump each time I used it and I felt as if that's all that I needed. It helps remove impurities, regulates sebum and refreshes young skin. It contains willow bark and Tea tree extracts, that helps against the build up of dirt and grime and reduces the risk of breakouts. My skin has felt so much more fresh and clean since using this as well as brightening the overall appearance. I'd definitely give this a go if you suffer from darkness/redness, and feel that your skin is looking dull.

Clear Skin Purifying Serum 30ml- £14.00
The next product is the 'SUPER SERIUM'. I can definitely see myself repurchasing this product soon it's my life saver. All my blemishes are slowly drifting away and as they say, a little bit goes away it really does with this stuff. Get a small amount and apply it with your finger to the problemed area it helps clear spots quickly and effectively. This anti-blemish serum balances the skin, keeping acne- forming bacteria in check with Black Wilow Bark and harnessing Tea Tree extracts powerful long standing tradition of maintaining spot- free skin. Again I highly recommend this product and is worth investing in.

Clear Skin Cleansing Moisturiser 50ml- £11.00
Moisturizers are probably the one item of skincare that I own loads of and they usually just end up sitting in my skin care draw doing nothing. After testing this product out for over a week it's a product I am going to use repetitively. This moisturizer works wonders
keeping my skin feel soft and smooth. I apply it at least once a day usually in the morning before my makeup and sometimes at night. It feels so fresh and light when applying it and leaves my skin super hydrated. Unlike many other products on the high street, this moisturizer doesn't contain alcohol as alcohol usually dries out the skin and which sets of oil production in your skin fighting against the dryness. Clear skin cleansing Moisturiser is rich in purifying for sensitive and acne- prone skin. PH balanced this blend includes skin- friendly Willow Bark, Green Tea to reduce redness and irritation this all supports healthy bacteria in your skin.

Clear Skin Blemish Concealer 30ml - £10.00
The final post I got sent was the concealer. I didn't get the chance to test this out but let me tell you a little about the product. Not only is it a concealer to cover spots it also contains many vitamins and minerals to help with the spots you are treating. The Tea Tree extract targets blemishes while it also smooths and calms inflamed skin.

Overall I feel that these products have worked well and I hope you have enjoyed reading this post and I urge you to try out the Green People Oy! range. To top it off I have got you guys a discount code of 15% to use on the Green People website code: LIFEOFEMILY

Celebrating one year of Life Of Emily

Life Of Emily has officially turned one and I wanted to make this post to thank each and every one of you for not only taking the time to read but also leaving me lovely comments to read.

I am slightly disappointed how irregular I have been with how often I post and wish to post so much more content in year 2 of ‘Life Of Emily’. I feel that blogging takes up a huge amount of time, not realizing this at first. The important thing is to keep going no matter what and I realize it's okay to put my blog on pause for a moment as I want to publish the best content I possibly can. I love being part of the blogging community with little Twitter chats here and there and can't forget how fabulous the readers are.

I know I have a long way to go, I really want to improve my writing skills, as well as photography and creativity.

Again, thank you for taking your time to visit my little corner of the internet and HAPPY BLOGAVERSARY TO ME!

BETTY BOX: REVIEW

29 July 2017

I love subscription boxes. The element of surprise makes opening them feel like your birthday or Christmas and is a great way to discover new brands, products and items you may not have picked up or bought otherwise.

Betty Box* is a monthly period subscription designed to make that time of the month that bit easy with a choice of delivery dates to suit you. Betty box is a teen version of the pink parcel. Betty Box isn't just a period subscription box is a place where you can find everything and everything from body, lifestyle and people to style.

Each box contains a mix of pads, tampons and liners depending on which you select when designing your box online. Inside there is a selection of beauty products, sweet treats for a much needed pick me up when you're feeling down on the time of the month.

Whats in the box?
I kindly got sent the July box and this is whats inside

Candy Kittens Sour Blueberry Gourmet sweets

Zero Crease Hair Tie

Balance me pure skin facial wash

Lisa angel shape bracelet

Korres bergamot and pear body milk

anatomicals deep conditioning hair pack

Scrub love coconut affair coffee scrub

L'oreal colour riche nail polish

Box for Late - Containing your chosen sanitary products

Box for Night- Containing thicker towels or tampons for at night.

How does it work?
You simply go onto the Betty box website and simply select what brand of tampons and/or pads you would like to receive in your Betty Box, you then choose your delivery date out of three options, then wait for your box to arrive each month. If you are unhappy which I doubt you will be then you can cancel your subscription at any time.

How much does the Betty box cost & Where can I subscribe?
You can get your 1st Betty box for just £6.99 and then £10.50 per month after which I think is still a great value!

Overall thoughts
I was really impressed with the Betty Box. It has got every thing you need for your period, it’s super easy and you don't even have to take a trip to the pharmacy or shop and you get a lot of sanitary products. I adore the design and colourful packaging.

MY TEENAGE SKIN CARE TIPS

6 May 2017

Hello everyone, Long time no see. Some of you might have been aware that my blog has not been working over the past month or so due to technical things I'm no tech expert so it took me a while to figure things out. But the important thing is now that it's working and you will get to see more posts from me. How exciting! Now to the reason you're probably here is my tips on sorting our your teenage skin.

Over the past couple of years, I have recently discovered that my skin probably isn't at its best and the troublesome ‘teenage skin’ has kicked in. If you are a teenager, like me you can probably relate to the struggles. Because of hormonal changes, it can be hard to keep it in charge from oiliness, acne and clogged pores it can be a pain to manage. I hope you guys find my tips helpful and let me know your favourite skin care products in the comments below as well as if you would like to see the products I use e.g. Skincare routine.

#1 Know your skin type
Before splurging out on expensive products it's probably best to know your skin type so you can get the best products for your skin. Personally, I have combination skin, meaning that I have an oily t- zone but other areas of my face can often get dry at times; but if you're unsure there are many ways online you can find out.

#2 Drink more water
One of the best tips, yet the oldest. Staying hydrated is vital to keeping healthy, hydrated skin and preventing breakouts and spots. No matter how much you cleanse your skin this tip is vital as your body needs nourishing on the inside. It also will help your skin glow, shine and be more soft appearing.

#3 Don't wear heavy foundations or makeup every day
If you are wearing a full face of makeup every single day you can really clog up your pores and this can lead to your skin breaking out. Avoid wearing super heavy foundations every day and only wear on special occasions or when you need a fuller coverage. I suggest using a lighter foundation for every day like the Bourjois healthy mix serum.

#4 Remove makeup
We can all be a bit forgetful at night especially when coming home late or staying over at a friends house to remove our makeup. Try to remove your makeup before going to bed as you could wake up with a few extra pimples in the morning! You could but a pack of facial wipes next to your bed to make sure you don't forget. Leaving it on your skin means it can not breathe and it can clog pores making them dirtier.

#5 Develop a small routine
This doesn't have to be anything fancy, infant some of the high-end products do just as a good job as the cheaper alternates. Eg. Use a cleanser every morning and a thick moisturiser at night on your skin. Your skin will be thanking you for spending that extra bit of time in the bathroom.

#6 Having a healthy and balanced diet
I must admit myself I'm not always the healthiest and do enjoy a bar of chocolate after school but good skin care comes with a good diet. Lots of fruit and vegetables will help you along the way.

#7 Sunscreen application
The sun can be extremely damaging to our skin as its known to cause wrinkles, fine lines and blemishes. When we do get the sun in the Uk it's important you apply sun protector and use products with SPF in them and do the same anytime your in contact with the sun.

#8 Be confident in your bear skin
It's part of growing up! Unfortunately a majority of teens will have to face the dreaded acne- prone skin but hopefully, these tips will help you out. Last but important tip be confident in yourself! Try your hardest not to worry or feel self- conscious about this no matter what people say, enjoy yourself and block the haters.

Do you have any other tips?

SMILE AT YOURSELF

12 March 2017

Many people in today society including myself sometimes always put the negatives before the positives about themselves and are putting themselves down for no necessary reasons. 99% of us will easily be able to pick something out they don't like about their appearance and are obsessed with changing it, however, these days this is the ultimate goal to look our best. Come new year how many of us put losing weight at the top of their new year's resolution, an awful lot in fact. People are becoming obsessed with the way they look and are constantly thinking about it turning into an unhealthy obsession. No matter what size, shape or weight people always just want more and aren't happy with themselves.

1. Get NAKED, without that sounding super strange I mean it, take your clothes off and have a shower, scrub your body from head to toe in your favorite body wash. Once you've showered take a look at yourself in the mirror and compliment yourself, I'm sure many of you will find this challenging but it's rewarding. Tell yourself how BEAUTIFUL you are. Smile at the curves, lines, muscles, dimples, hair and scars take in the positives who has time for negatives!

2. EXERCISE. The word you love or dread. If the only reason you exercise is to burn off that chocolate brownie you need to rethink and consider your gym membership. Going to the gym shouldn't be a workout! You should be going as it's something you enjoy or wanting to challenge yourself. Hours on end pushing you, straining muscle fibres just for the 'perfect body' will always fail in my eyes as your just getting yourself wrapped up in yourself. What even does the 'perfect body' mean? You should be moving your body because you want to feel stronger, happier, healthier, sleep better and live a longer life.

3. FOOD, that one really unhealthy meal you ate doesn't mean that you are going to all sudden put loads of weight on or does that super healthy meal you ate mean you are going to shed loads of pounds. It's not about what you eat, its how much you eat of it. Enjoy what you eat as your less likely to binge.

4. Finally, SMILE considers all the above and complement yourself. Accepting yourself may be hard but it worth it to be clear headed and happier about yourself. There's so much more to life than comparing you to others feeling slug all the time. Take care of yourself and live a happier, healthier life.

PANCAKES

23 February 2017

 * As you can probably tell I got a bit excited with the Nutella and went crazy!

With Pancake day soon approaching, 5 days in fact!! I thought that I would share how to make these American-style fluffy pancakes. Don`t get me wrong, I do love the classic thin crepe but there is something special about American pancakes I just love. The toppings are endless and they are so easy to make.

You might have seen these on my Instagram story?

FLUFFY AMERICAN PANCAKES
I N G R E D I E N T S

135g Plain Flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp Salt
2 tbsp Casta Sugar
2 Tbs Casta Sugar
130ml Milk
1 Large egg

T O P P I N G S
I used Nutella and banana you can be as creative as you wish here

M E T H O D

1. Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and caster sugar into a large bowl. In a separate bowl or jug, lightly wish together the milk and egg.

2. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and, use a fork, beat until you have a smooth batter. Any lumps will soon disappear after a little mixing.

3.  Heat a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat and add a knob of butter. When it's melted add a ladle of batter (or two if your frying pan is big enough to cook two pancakes at the same time). It will seem thick but this is how it should be. Wait until the top of the pancake begins to bubble, then turn it over and cook until both sides are golden brown and the pancake has slightly risen.

4. Keep repeating until all the batter is used up.

5. Add your favourite toppings and enjoy!
(I found this recipe from the trusted BBC food)

Hope you enjoy your pancakes and share them with the people you love.

What is your favourite pancake topping?

NUDE MAC LIPSTICK COLLECTION

19 February 2017

Within my little MAC lipstick collection of nine, these are my four nude shades and I adore each and every one of them. MAC was probably the first high- end (ISH) company that I started investing in, buying more luxurious high-end lipstick considering every purchase before I made it, as £16.50 lipstick for a student is not light on the bank! Whenever I'm near a MAC counter I feel you have to walk out with a hand full of lipstick swatches. Anyone else agree?

Let's stop rambling and let me show you my four nude lipsticks:

1.Shy girl
Shy girl is a delicate baby pink shade lightly covering the lips. Easily buildable to how you want it with multiple layers. Perfect everyday nude.

2. Whirl
Whirl reminds me of a color you would find back in the 70s. Whirl is very similar to velvet teddy when first applied but as you build it gets darker with its pink undertones, unlike velvet teddy which is brown-undertoned. The shade would complement any neutral eye look but could also pair with a party look with a smokey eye.

3. Velvet teddy
The shade almost every girl has in their makeup collection. This was actually the first MAC lipstick that I brought myself and the first I completely finished. This is the perfect lipstick if you're after a brown toned nude matte lipstick. MACs matte formula is quite creamy making it easy to apply but then drying into a matte finish.

4.Creme cup
Creme cup is a sheer light pink, soft, buildable lipstick which is wearable for most skin tones. I'm not always the biggest fan of cream sheen finish as I often have chapped lips and they show off all the lines and cracks. If you don't have dry lips then this will look gorgeous.

Time for swatches who doesn't love them?

CHOCOLATE BROWNIES

13 February 2017

Brownies would have to be one of my favourite foods and I'm sure you'll be loving them as well after trying out this recipe. You could try adding some of your favourite chocolate on top like cream eggs! Hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed eating them. I also love honeycomb ice cream so this was the perfect excuse to indulge. Wouldn't suggest if you are on a strict diet (very heavy calories!).

WINKY LUX FLOWER LIP BALM SET

21 January 2017

(*please excuse the blu tack)
So when I found out Winky Lux were collaborating with ASOS I soon added them to my basket with excitement! As I have ASOS premium they soon came and were able to have them then next day (highly recommend subscribing to ASOS premium) they came in a super cute small metallic, gold makeup bag. ASOS are selling them for £25 and you get all three colours; yellow, green and pink saving 35% rather than on the website for £9.50 each. Must admit packaging is probably the reason why I but most makeup products and I just couldn't resist when I saw these lip balms that had real flowers in them, know as chrysanthemum in the plant world!
